HOMER – Kristen Denise Getchonis, 40, of Cherry Street, formerly of Hamilton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 at her home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1967 in Hamilton, a daughter of R. Charles and Sally Carroccio Getchonis. Kristen was a graduate of Hamilton Central School in 1986 and had attended SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Cortland. She was a pre-vocational coordinator at the J.M. Murray Center in Cortland for 11 years. She had previously been an aide at Cortland Nursing Home.
Surviving are her companion, Joel Evangelista of Homer; her daughters, Emily and Edie; her parents, Charlie and Sally Getchonis of Hamilton; her grandmother, Gladys Carroccio of Hamilton; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Scot and Amber Getchonis of Alexandria, Va.; and Meredith Getchonis of Hamilton; nephews, Kaleb and Jalen; nieces, Skyler, Ann-Elise and Marie-Claire. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. Kristen was predeceased by a brother, Craig S. Getchonis on April 25, 2005, and her grandfather, Al Carroccio on Sept. 28, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, followed by interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Hamilton.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
