Edward Ward Sr.


NORWICH – Edward M. Ward Sr., 76, formerly of Binghamton and most recently of Norwich, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2008 in the Binghamton General Hospital.
Born in Homer in July of 1932, Ed was the son of Elmer and Florence (Marvin) Cox. He grew up in the Homer, Cortland, and Marathon areas where he attended the local schools. Over his years, he worked for several area businesses, including Spaulding Bakery, Berglass Manufacturing, Smith Corona and Wickwire. Ed was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, an out-going people person who made friends everywhere and touched the lives of all he met. He was a good Christian who read his Bible regularly, and he loved animals, especially his cats, Two Socks, Chestnut, Baby Girl and Curious, and his special dog, Buster. Ed also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a special bond with all of his hunting crew.
Ed is survived by his wife, Beverly Jackson Ward of Norwich; his children: Martin Cox, Sr., and wife Bonnie of New Berlin, Calluah Kronk and husband Kenneth of Binghamton, Andrea Cox and companion Kenneth Humphrey of Baldwinsville, Edward Ward Jr., and companion Sophie Mott of Norwich; and his step-daughter, Marjorie Lusk of Liverpool. Ed is also survived by nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; his sisters and brothers: Joan Hitchcock and husband Ralph of Johnstown, Eleanor Moorehouse of Bakers Mills, Yvonne Aldridge and husband Edward of Arizona, Carol Micchem of South Carolina, Merle Cox and wife Ellamae of Norwich, DeWitt Cox and wife Pat of Norwich, David Cox and wife Pat of DeRuyter, and Bill Cox of Oregon; plus nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Larry Cox.
Funeral services for Ed will be held at noon on Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis McKenna, pastor of the Assembly of God, will officiate.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at noon.
