Mona Genung


NORWICH – Mona Katherine Genung, 72, of the Town of Norwich, passed away Aug. 13, 2006 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
She was born in South Edmeston on June 3, 1934, a daughter of Milton and Geraldine (Peterson) Fish. On June 19, 1954, Mona married Warren Genung at St. Andrew’s Church, New Berlin. Warren survives.
Mona spent her childhood in the South Edmeston and New Berlin areas. She attended New Berlin High School. She was a nurse’s aide at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, Valley View Nursing Home, Proprietary Home and Broome Developmental. Mona was a deaconess at the South Edmeston Community Church and also played the organ when needed. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also loved to watch the wild birds. Mona participated in the Chenango Water Exercise Group at Colgate University and was an avid seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren.
Mona is survived by her husband, Warren; her children, Sande C. Genung of Beckley W.Va., Sherri C. Genung, Shawn W. Genung of Norwich, Scott H. Genung of Unadilla; five grandchildren, Joanna, Joshua, Josiah, Tanner and Rileigh and two brothers, Wesley Fish of Lakeland, Fla. and Peter Fish of New Jersey.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the South Edmeston Community Church. Pastor Jeff McLallen of the South Edmeston Church will officiate. Interment will be in the West Edmeston Cemetery, West Edmeston. Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the South Edmeston Community Church.
Memorial donations maybe made to the South Edmeston Community Church, South Edmeston, for a project to be determined by the family at a later date.
