NORWICH – Catherine M. Ray, 79, of the Harding Nursing Home, formerly of Brookfield and Waterville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at the home.
She was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Norwich, the daughter of the late Henry and Jessie Wilkes Ryan and was educated in Norwich schools. On Oct. 31, 1946, in Norwich, she married John D. Ray. He passed away Jan. 5, 1980. For 15 years, Mrs. Ray was employed with the Waterville Knitting Mill.
Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to cook and enjoyed baseball.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria Ray of Waterville and Alice and Willard Randall of Frankfort; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Ray of Brookfield; another son-in-law, Cari Burdick of Hubbardsville; a sister, Jean (Thorp) Milter of Homosassa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters and a son-in-law, Stella Burdick and Jean Ray and Fred Kuhr.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Rick Catlin officiating, Interment will be in South Brookfield Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 2- to 4 p.m., prior to the service.
