David Wadsworth

NORWICH – David Wadsworth, 60, of Norwich, passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 29, 2008 at his home, following a brief illness.
Dave was born in Oxford in January of 1948, the son of Frank and Arleen (Manwarren) Wadsworth. He attended school in Norwich, and was a 22-year employee of Victory Markets, where he operated a forklift in the warehouse. Following Victory’s closing, Dave went to work for Consolidated Construction of Binghamton, working as a brick layer, while concurrently operating his dairy farm in the Town of Norwich. Over his years, he worked at least two jobs all of the time, yet he delighted in having time to go hunting or to watch the NASCAR races on the television. He loved speed, and enjoyed sports cars, particularly Mustangs, and the faster the better. A guy with a wise-acre sense of humor, he loved to make people laugh. He also adored his family and it was his pleasure to spend time with them.
On June 15, 1974, in Plymouth, Dave married Diana Knapp. He is survived by his wife, Diana Wadsworth of Norwich; by his children: Alexa Hadlock and husband James of West Oneonta, Wenona Rifanburg of South New Berlin, and Chad Wadsworth of Norwich; and his grandchildren: Jacqueline and Colby Young, and Jessica Hadlock, all of West Oneonta, and Emily, Sara and Dillon Rifanburg of South New Berlin. Also surviving are Dave’s sisters and brothers and their spouses: Alice and Lawrence Murray of Norwich, Pat and Dennis Betsinger of Munnsville, Shirley and Robert Wright of Oxford, Linda Burdick of Oxford, Leroy and Starr Wadsworth of Norwich, and Fran and Diana Wadsworth of Vestal; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Arleen; and by his brother, Frank Manwarren.
Funeral services for Dave will be held at noon on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Kurt Funke of the Trout Creek Community Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at noon.
Please consider memorial contributions to the South New Berlin Fire Dept., South New Berlin, NY 13843.
