PITCHER – Nina A. Brown, 91, of Union Valley Road, Pitcher, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 28, 2008.
Nina was born in DeRuyter on April 28, 1917, a daughter of the late Walter A. and Edna C. Stephens Mathews.  She attended the United Church of DeRuyter.  She was a member of the DeRuyter Tromptown, Norwich, and Taylor Historical Societies.  She served as a mail carrier for 58 years until her retirement in 2003.  Even after her retirement, she continued to pass on her knowledge to other mail carriers.  She took great pride in her carpentry and mason work.  Nina was well known and friends with many people in the Valley.
She is survived by her son, Leland E. (Karolyn) Stearns of Lancaster, and a grandson, Steven Stearns of Cortland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Brown, in 1988.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of DeRuyter with Reverend Vern Groves officiating.  Prayers of committal will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery, DeRuyter. 
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
