Clifford Harris


OXFORD – Clifford Alford Harris, 95, of Kingsland, Texas, formerly of Oxford, passed away Aug. 13, 2008.  He was born to Frank and Mamie (Stickle) Harris on Aug. 28, 1912, in Afton.
Mr. Harris was a dairy farmer for 17 years.  Later, he was a mechanic and truck driver for William’s Sand and Gravel and Mackintosh Concrete Co. in Binghamton. He also was a mechanic and school bus driver for the Sherburne-Earlville Central School, in Sherburne. For a number of years, once he finished work, he would plow many gardens with his John Deere tractor for extra money.  After his retirement he opened a small auto shop in his garage repairing engines and doing light body work. For the last few years he spent his winters in the Kingsland area with his son. He loved going to San Antonio to the River Walk, the zoo, and Sea World etc. He was a life long hard worker and a loving father.
He is survived by his sons, Clifford Alford Harris, Jr., of Whitney Point, and Ivan Jay Harris of Buchanan Dam, Texas, grandchildren, Tammy Harris of Richland Hills, Texas, Christy Harris of Searcy, Ark., Crystal Brown, Donald Harris, and Douglas Harris, greatgrandchildren, Catherine Denise Miles, Casey Miles, and numerous other greatgrandchildren.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday at the Putnam Funeral Home Chapel.  An online register book may be signed at www.putnamfunerals.com.
