Joseph Dvoracek Jr.


GILBERTSVILLE – Joseph R. Dvoracek, Jr. 66, passed away peacefully following a short illness on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 with his family by his side.  A resident of Gilbertsville since 1973, Joe was active with the Fire Department for a short time and a member of the American Legion for 18 years.
The son of the late Joseph R. Dvoracek, Sr. and Elizabeth McManus Joe was born Nov. 23, 1941 in Freeport.  His family relocated to Treadwell, where he graduated high school in 1960.  Joe spent six years in the Navy as a Medic and settled down with his soul mate and wife in Astoria, Queens and relocated to Gilbertsville, with his family in 1973.  He worked in the banking industry for twenty years with Chase Manhattan Bank and the Central Bank of Canajoharie in Edmeston.  Joe then worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for 23 years and retired in March 2005. He had a great passion for sports and has enjoyed traveling the world, especially on cruises, from Hawaii to Alaska, the Caribbean and Europe.  His family and friends wish him Bon Voyage on his latest journey.
He is survived by his soul mate and wife of 47 years Nilda (Dory) Dvoracek, two children Donna and James Dvoracek, two grandchildren Danielle and Kayla Zinn, his brothers Lenny Keushgarian and John Dvoracek and sisters Bonnie Germano and husband Frank, Caroline Verderber and husband Joe and Jeanette Cotter.  He is predeceased by his brother Larry Keushgarian and sisters Linda Ames and Barbara Pollack.
Calling hours will be held at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris on Friday from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a wake service during the evening hours.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morris on Saturday with the Very Reverend John Burns at 11 a.m.  A gathering will take place immediately after the mass in the church’s Salvation Hall.
