NORWICH – Emily B. Walker, 93, formerly of Eric St., Norwich, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital, where she had resided in recent months.
The daughter of Elmer and Ina (Hull) Bond, Emily was born in August of 1914 in Syracuse. Following her graduation from the Sidney High School, she attended Cortland Normal School and earned her teaching degree at Buffalo State. In her early years, she taught for a brief time at Croton on the Hudson. Emily and John D. Walker began their 67 years together when they were married in Sidney on Aug. 1, 1939, and moved to Norwich, where John went to work for the Norwich Pharmacal Company and was actively involved in the community. She belonged to the Norwich Garden Club, the Monday Evening Musical Club, and was a long-time member of the United Church of Christ First Congregational. Their years in Norwich were interrupted for short periods during John's transfers to Buffalo, Needham, Mass., and Hudson, Ohio, but they always returned to Norwich. One of Emily's greatest delights was entertaining on the porch of their Eric Street home.

Walker, Jr. and his wife Claire of Columbia, Md., and their children Courtney, Tim, Molly and Andy; and Susan Caputo, her husband Anthony “Nouch,” and their son Eddie of Norwich. She is also survived by her special friend and cat, Noel. Emily was predeceased by her husband, John, on Dec. 18, 2006, her twin daughters and by her brother, Richard Bond.
Funeral services for Emily will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the United Church of Christ with its pastor, the Rev. Joseph Connolly, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements arc by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
