Bessie Brown


NORWICH – Bessie G. Brown, 78, died July 6, 2008, at Chenango Memorial Hospital while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Bessie Louise Guinn on August 21, 1929 in Jonesboro, Tenn., the daughter of Ralph and Jessie Keplinger Guinn. The family moved to Norwich when she was nine months old.  She graduated from Norwich High School in 1947. Together with her former husband, the late Marris Brown, they farmed in Cincinnatus and raised their family.  She moved back to Norwich in 1977 and made her home on Chenango Ave. until a year ago, when illness forced her to move in with her daughter and son-in-law. She retired from Simmons Precision in Norwich in 1994.
She is survived by four daughters and four sons:  Judy (James) Rice of Cincinnatus, Jerry (Lori) Brown of Raleigh, NC, Joyce (Ward) Monroe of Norwich, Jay (Kathy) Brown of Norwich, Ira “Neil” Brown of S. Plymouth, Kenneth (Carlene) Brown of Cincinnatus, Kellie (BJ) Bishop of S. Otselic, and Leslie Brown of Norwich; 31 grandchildren, Denise, Jim (Cherie), and Darren Rice, Teri (Mike) Santoianni, Jeff (Amanda) Brown, Julie and Jacque Brown, BJ (Aleta) Moffett, Amanda Holt, Brooks (Kandi) Monroe, Eva (Brett) Crandall, Hailey Christopherson, Danielle and Britney Orlando, Kristin and Eric Alger, Dale (Lynette) Brown, Terri (Jeff) Grzymkowski, Shawn and Caitlin Brown, Courtney, Jacob, Dulcie, Tristah and Deacon Brown, Jennifer (Doug) Case, Charles Bishop III, Brandi Brown, Kathlene and Bradley Schultes, and Kari Roberts.  She also leaves behind her 27 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Rachel, Stone, Phoenix, Willow, Arwen, Brianna, Caleb, Kyli, Dixi, Brina, Taylor, Adam, Amber, Wyatt, Eric, Stella, Lindsy, Leann, Cassidy, Taylor, Alexandra, Gabrielle, Alissa, Jesse, Levi, and Cameron; two very faithful sisters to the end, Anna Mae Quincy and Donna (Russell) Singer, all of Norwich; four brothers, James (Linda) Guinn, Vernon (Ginny) Guinn, all of Norwich, Robert “Carl” (Shirley) Guinn of Ocala, FL, and Roy (Phyllis) Guinn of Cincinnatus, a sister-in-law, Charlotte Guinn, of Norwich,; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and two long-time good friends, Eva (Mike) Warren of Norwich and Joyce Pittsley of Cincinnatus.
 She was predeceased by her father on Dec. 30, 1974, her mother on July 6, 1996, a son, Jason, on Oct. 15, 1958, a granddaughter, Sandi Brown, on October 12, 1977, a sister, Lorena in 1927, a brother, William in 2007, a sister-in-law, Roberta (Bobbie) Guinn in 1972, and a brother-in-law, William Quincy in 1977.
 Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, with Reverend Jeremy Stopford officiating. Burial will be in Lower Cincinnatus Cemetery. 
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
