Frances Hazard

NORWICH – Frances Hazard (Galloupe) passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at her home at  “Young at Hearts,” in Arizona where she resided the last 2 years.  Frances was 92 years young.
Prior to their move to Tucson, Ariz., Frances and Raymond (Hap) Hazard, lived in the Kingsettlement area since 1947. Frances worked in several businesses within the Norwich area, but was best known for her kind and dedicated work at the Guernsey Memorial Library. She was very active in the Boy Scouts, the Home Bureau to name a few. She had made many lifetime friends as a member of the “TOPS” club. Her and Raymond enjoyed to bowl and were in several leagues throughout their years in Norwich. Frances often recalled the times she spent with her grandchildren in New York, and seeing them at the library. She also enjoyed Bingo, going to horse races.  After several trips to Tucson, Ariz., they both retired and moved there in 1980.
As they enjoyed the last two years of Raymond’s life in Arizona, they loved watching their two Arizona grandchildren, Kellie and Eric play in the baseball leagues. Together they attended every game with enthusiasm and joy to see them play ball. They also went to many pre-season professional baseball games in Tucson. They also attended the Tucson Open.
Frances was preceded by her loving husband Raymond E. Hazard, of 45 years, who passed away May of 1984,  and first son, Raymond G. Hazard (Jerry) of Smynra.
In 1989 she married George Galloupe. He said he would give her 8 good years and he kept his word, as he passed away in 1997. They spent the time traveling across the countryside, from California to New York visiting her family, grandchildren and friends. The last 16 years, Frances never stopped living life to her fullest possible. She learned to do oil painting, continued to be avid reader. She traveled to Hawaii, bowled on a league, played bingo and canasta.
Prior to moving to “Young at Hearts,” she resided at “The Fountains” in Tucson. She loved her independent  apartment  there, and participated in many of the activities “The Fountains” offered.
Frances Hazard (Galloupe) will be remembered for how she treated others, with respect, and kindness. Everyone who met Frances enjoyed being around her. She showed inner strengths during life’s trying times.
Frances is survived by her sister, Loretta Chandler of New York, her daughter, Arlene Svenson of California, son James Hazard of Arizona; seven grandchildren: Teresa Hazard, Joe Hazard, Wendy Miller, Jeremy Hazard, Christie Hanyon all of the Norwich area, Kellie Jung of Nevada, and Eric Svenson of Arizona. Frances was a great and great-great grandmother as well.
Services will be held at the “The Fountains, Senior Sunrise” 2001 W. Rudasill on June 27.
A memorial service will be held in the Norwich area at a later date in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be most appreciatively accepted by Hospice of Chenango County at 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815. The Norwich branch of Hospice has been a mainstay in helping with the untimely passing of her first son, Jerry Hazard.
