Christopher Jantzen


EARLVILLE – Christopher H. Jantzen, 82, of South Main St., passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1925 in Earlville a son of the late Christopher H. and Bernice Dower Jantzen and received his education in Earlville schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. On December 22, 1948, Chris married his beloved Helen in Callicoon. She predeceased him on May 29, 2000. Chris had been a cashier and terminal operator at Vernon Downs for over 40 years. He had also worked at T.A.C.O. in Sherburne for 20 years, and was a milk inspector for the Dairylea Co-op and the South New Berlin Co-op until his retirement.
Chris was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #236 of Earlville where he had held several offices. He was a member and former treasurer of the American Legion Members Home Assoc. of Earlville, and a member of the Earlville Cemetery Assoc. Chris was an avid bowler for many years and loved to play golf.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice and Peter Gebelein of Virginia Beach, Va. and Donna Jantzen of Earlville; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Rebecca Jantzen of Hamilton; his grandchildren, Tonya (Kevin) Healey of S. Riding, Va.; Tracy Gebelein of Virginia Beach, Va.; PFC John Gebelein, USMC, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Breana (Joshua) Holt of Virginia Beach, Va.; Desiree (James) Jantzen-Carnachan, Conn.; Andrea and Kara Jantzen, both of Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Mya Carnachan; two sisters-in-law, Viola Jantzen of Earlville and Dorothy Jantzen of Canandaigua; his aunt, Alice Rodman of Earlville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Garth, Paul, Walter (Bud) and Charles Jantzen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, followed by burial with military honors in the Earlville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m..
