Mary Marks


ROME – Mary B. Marks of Rome, formerly of Mt. Upton, passed away on June 4, 2008 at the Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford. She was born on February 19, 1922 in Madera, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Kopichak) Basarab.  On December 19, 1941, she married Theodore J. Marks, who passed away on May 20, 2006.
She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Evelyn and Paul Rothdiener of Rome, Susan and Ronald Seidel of Chenango Forks; her sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore and Ellen Marks of Schoharie, James and Elizabeth Marks of Oxford, Christopher and Brenda Marks of Guilford, Peter and Teressa Marks of Mt. Upton, Paul and Pamela Marks of Simpsonville, SC, Michael Robert Marks of Norwich, and Andrew and Diana Marks of Lafayette; her siblings, Ann Kohan, Katie Lumanick, John Basarab, Susan Warholic, Andrea Fenchak, and Paul Fenchak. Twenty-six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her siblings, George Basarab, Steve Basarab and Mike Basarab.
Mary was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who offered unconditional love to all of her family. She was a former Cub Scout leader, a former secretary for Opportunities for Chenango and a member of St. Joseph’s RC Church of Oxford and a member of the Guilford Senior Citizens. She was an avid reader and was loving and referred to as the crossword puzzle “Queen.” She also helped in the family business, Marks and Sons Electric, as the bookkeeper. She was often the recipient of used appliances.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s RC Church with the Rev. Thomas I. Ward, pastor celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow in North Guilford Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home Inc., 21 Main St., Oxford on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. when a prayer service will be held prior to funeral mass. Memorial contributions may be made to The Siegenthaler Center, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
