Ellen Currie


NORWICH – Ellen E. Currie, 81, of Norwich, passed away Friday afternoon, May 23, 2008 with her family by her side, at the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford, where she has made her home for the past several years.
Ellen was born in September of 1926 in Baldwin, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Rudy) Bonney. She grew up in the Baldwin area where she attended and graduated from the local school. On Sept. 27, 1944, she married Edward J. Campbell. Together they made their home in Oceanside, Long Island, where she worked as a teacher’s aide in the Oceanside school system. In 1973 Ellen and her husband moved to Candor to be closer to her family. Her husband Edward passed away on March 18, 1979 and she subsequently married James Currie, who passed away March 9, 2001. At this time Ellen moved to the Norwich area to once again be closer to her family.
A very social and outgoing lady, Ellen loved people and made friends very easily. She was a very active and dedicated member of the VFW 2782 Ladies Auxiliary and could also be found at their bingo games.
Ellen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and James Currie of Norwich; her son Brian Campbell of San Diego, Calif.; her brother and sister-in-law John and Gladys Bonney of Vermont; her grandchildren, James (Carla) Currie of Brooklyn, Christopher (Lisa) Currie of Pleasantville, Timothy (Jennifer) Currie of the Bronx and Daniel Currie of San Francisco, Calif. Also surviving is her great-grandchild Emmit Currie, along with nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Ellen will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham will officiate. Interment will be in the Long Island National Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
