Michael D. Bonsie


SHERBURNE – Michael D. Bonsie, 93, of New Street, passed away Wednesday May 21, 2008 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born in Sherburne on December 20, 1914, a son of the late Norato and Teresa (Ciana) Bonsie. A life long Sherburne resident he received his education in local schools. On July 24, 1937 in St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne, he was united in marriage to the former Angelina Colabelli. Mr. Bonsie was employed by the Utica Knitting Mill in Sherburne for over 20 years, and later worked in construction for the Laborers Union #7, Binghamton, until his retirement. He had been a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during WWII.
Mike was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. His passion was gardening and he enjoyed bowling, fishing and trapping. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all.
Surviving is his wife, Angelina; a son, Michael J. Bonsie and his companion, Connie Knapp of Earlville; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bohdan “Bob” Wolanski of Worcester, Pa; a sister, Jennie Cappadonia of Sherburne; his beloved grandchildren, Marcellene Barrie of Oriskany Falls; Michael Bonsie of Sherburne; Martin Bonsie of Earlville; Kristina and Peter Colabelli of Worcester, Pa; Joanna and Rob Moyer, Limerick, Pa; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brandee, Tanner, Ava Grace, Nicholas, Christopher and Matthew; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Mardelle Bonsie; three sisters, Rose Gridlay, Lena Lehman and Kathryn Klockowski, and a brother, Louis Bonsie.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne.
Burial will be in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 p.m.. The rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m.
