Charlotte Bigger


SHERBURNE – Charlotte Shaw Bigger, 90, of Sherburne, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
Charlotte was born March 28, 1918 in Philipsburg, Pa. to Dory & Nettie Goss.
She was married to Stanley Bigger on Feb. 2, 1936. She was predeceased by her husband on Aug. 26 in 1989.
Charlotte spent her childhood in New Bedford, N.J. where she attended Manasquan High School. She raised her family in Spring Lake Heights, N.J. Following her husband Stanley’s retirement, they moved to New York where she displayed her artistic talent in many ways.
She resided at her home in Sherburne prior to moving to the Pratt Newton Adult Home in 2005. In January 2008, she moved to Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.
Charlotte celebrated her 90 birthday surrounded by her five children, most of her 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and friends. She celebrated many wonderful memories and died peacefully two weeks later with many of her family by her side.
Charlotte worked with the fire and police department in Spring Lake Heights, N.J., then after moving to upstate New York, she earned her real estate license and practiced in Chenango and Madison County.
She is survived by her children: Joan Anderson and Roy Frost of Murels Inlet, S.C., Richard and MaryAnn Bigger of Columbus, Diane and John Ross of Richmond Va., Kathy & Martin Merlino of Landrum, S.C., Glenn and Debbie Bigger of Allen, Texas. She was predeceased by her son, Leon Bigger.
She is survived by her siblings, Harold Goss, Alene Alesi and Lloyd Goss and predeceased by siblings Shelden, Theodore, John and Paul Goss and Lucille Law.
She was a member of the Fireman & Police Auxiliaries, the PTA and also a Cub Scout leader.
A memorial service will be held at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, N.J. May 3.
Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
