Angelo Taranto


NORWICH – Angelo C. Taranto, 70, of Jupiter, Fla., formerly of Norwich and Rochester, passed away on March 30, 2008 in Jupiter following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Angelo was born in Norwich, the son of George and Anna (Biviano) Taranto. He was a graduate of Norwich High School class of 1955. He obtained both a BS and MS Degrees from SUNY Cortland and a M.Ed. from the University of Rochester Graduate School of Education. Angelo worked as a Math Teacher from 1960 to 1966 in the East Irondequoit School District and from 1966 to 1988 he was a Guidance Counselor in the Webster School District. He was a former member of the Penfield Country Club, Sodus Bay Heights Country Club, and Rochester Yacht Club. Following his retirement, Angelo attended the Golf Works School in Newark, Ohio. He was a Class “A” member of the Professional Club Makers Society. For the last 13 years he had worked part time at Club Masters in Juno Beach, Fla.
Angelo married Mary Ann Dunne on Dec. 28, 1963 in Norwich. Ang and Mary Ann raised their family in West Irondequoit and moved to Jupiter permanently in 1994. He has been a member of Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club since 1985. He was currently President of the Board of Southern Cay Homeowners Association and Secretary of the Presidents Council at Jonathan’s Landing. For the last five years Angelo and his wife have spent their summers in Manchester, Vermont, where he was a member of the Manchester Country Club. He was an avid New York Giants fan through good times and bad and enjoyed immensely their latest Super Bowl victory. Angelo was a communicant of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann, three children; Catherine (Christopher) Hogan of Delmar, Michael Taranto of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Mary Ann “Missy” (David) Shaffer of Madison, MS, eight grandchildren, Daniel, Griffin, Erin Grace, and Michael Hogan, Angelo and Andrew Taranto, and Hannah and Meghan Shaffer, his brother, Bart Taranto of Royal Palm Beach, Fla. and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Road, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. with Father Kevin Nelson the celebrant.
Interment will follow in Norwich at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, 1210 South Old Dixie Hwy., Jupiter, FL 33458-9972.
