NORTH NORWICH – David E. Laughlin, 64, of DeLeon Springs, Fla. and formerly a resident of North Norwich, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 in the Halifax Medical Center of Daytona Beach.
Born in Norwich in August of 1943, Dave was the son of Frank and Edith (Fuller) Laughlin. He attended Norwich High School and worked briefly for the Norwich Knitting Mill before entering the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to Norwich, Dave began his lengthy career as a chemical worker for The Norwich Pharmacal Company, working there for over 30 years and retiring from Procter & Gamble in 2002. Dave and his wife of 43 years, Beverly Rowe Laughlin, were married in Norwich on Oct. 10, 1964. They made the move to Florida following Dave’s retirement, but maintained a residence in Norwich where they enjoyed spending some time during the summers. Dave loved nature and being outdoors, especially walking the hills of the family farm on Polkville Hill. He was a bowler and a golfer, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Dave is survived by his wife, Beverly Laughlin of Florida; and by his sons: David Laughlin Jr. of Scottsville, Timothy P. Laughlin and wife Sherry of Norwich, and Scott Laughlin and wife Ronda of North Norwich. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Lauren, Cody, Scott and Kayla Laughlin; his sisters, Nora Stewart of Clayton, N.C. and Sarah Smith of West Plains, Mo.; his brother, Paul Laughlin and wife Josephine of Norwich; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dave was predeceased by his brothers, Ken and Francis Laughlin,
A memorial service for Dave will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
