James Kelly


NORWICH – James E. Kelly, 75, well-known Norwich resident, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 18, 2008 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Johnson City in August of 1932, Jim was the son of Edward and Leona Kelly. He had lived in the Norwich area for most of his adult life, and had been employed by Simmonds Precision and the Community Work Shop, where he worked as an assembler. He was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, where he taught a special Sunday School class. During his free time, Jim enjoyed writing poetry and had created many water color paintings, his favorite subject being local scenery. In recent years Jim had acquired a motorized “scooter” with which he thoroughly enjoyed touring around Norwich. Jim and his wife. Bertha (Stone) Kelly, were married in Holmesville on Sept. 7, 1974.
Jim is survived by his wife Bertha Kelly of Norwich; his sister and brother. Rose M. Bailey of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Edward J. Kelly of Utica; his mother-in-law, Isabelle Stone; and his niece, Linda.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m.
