Winifred Margeson


OXFORD – Winifred (Ackley) Margeson, of Oxford, died at her residence on Georgetown Road in Oxford, on March 10, 2008.
Winnie was born on May 10, 1921 in Endicott, the daughter of the late Harry and Flossie (Quick) Ackley. She went peacefully, to be with the Lord, with her family at her side.
Winnie was predeceased by her husband Bill (William H.) who died in June 1990, her sister Leora Vought, brother Charles Ackley and great granddaughter Abigail Margeson.
She is survived by a daughter, Carole (Margeson) and Larry Leahy of Laurens and a son, Bill (William J.) and Beverly B. Margeson of Sidney; their children, Jay and Christine Margeson of Sidney, Tom and Jennifer Leahy of Briarcliff Manor, and Kate and Richard Allaire of Victor; seven great grandchildren Luke, Jack and Hannah Martin, Cammy and Logan Allaire of Victor and Ty and Ian Leahy of Briarcliff Manor.
Winnie and her husband owned and operated restaurants located in Nineveh, Afton, Unadilla, South New Berlin, and Bainbridge from the 1940s until 1964. In 1964 Winnie went to work at Victory Markets in Norwich until her retirement in 1986.
Her favorite charities were the SPCA and Disabled American Veterans.
Mom we love you. You were always the backbone of our family, and we were blessed to have you with us all these years.
Winnie will be interred at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge in the spring. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
