Myrtle Howe


GUILFORD – Myrtle Howe of Marble Road, Guilford Center, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 on a sunny afternoon at her residence. 
She was born Sept. 27, 1920 to Howard and Addie (Hackley) Bush in Hartwick. She attended Oneonta State Teachers College (SUCO) and later attended Albany Business College. She married Lawrence D. Howe in July of 1949.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and famiy. He predeceased her on Dec. 6, 1997. She worked at Scintilla in general accounting only to take a break while raising her two children, Charles Howe and Nancy Bookhout.  She retired and enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren; Nicholas and Kristie Bookhout and Jeffery Howe, as well as other special “grandchildren” she cared for. Myrtle was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing piano and cards up until her health declined. She was also a member of the Guilford Methodist Church and active as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Cooperative Extension in Norwich and enjoyed learning to crochet and other crafts as she made many things for her family.
Myrtle is survived by her son, Charles L. Howe of Norwich; a daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and Kim Bookhout of East Guilford; three grandchildren:  Nicholas and Kristie Bookhout and Jeffery Howe. She was predeceased by three brothers: Gerald, Vincent and Ralph Bush; and a sister, Nina Bush. 
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St., Sidney.  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Sidney United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Green and Rev. Paul Amara co-officiating. 
Burial will take place in the spring at Fly Creek Cemetery, Fly Creek. 
Memorial contributions in Myrtle’s name may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County 21 Hayes Street Norwich, NY 13815 or the Guilford Emergency Squad.
