Oscar Porter


SHERBURNE – Oscar S. “Jack” Porter, 84, of County Rd. 20, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at the New York State Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
Born Nov. 23, 1923 in Worchester, Mass., he was a son of Stanley and Esther Rudkin Porter. He was a graduate of Andover (MA) High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Jack was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving from 1943 until 1946. On April 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carole J. Cosgrove in Jersey City, N.J. Jack had been the President of Hibbet-Laman in Denver, Colo., and later worked at TIVA Resources in Princeton, N.J. until his retirement. Following that, he moved to Sherburne where he was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. He was also an active member and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Sherburne Rotary Club. Jack was best known for his love of photography and model railroad designs.
Surviving are his wife, Carole; four children and their spouses, Heidi Virginia Webster of Derry, N.H.; Harvie and Susan Porter of Rutland, Vermont; Walter and Bonnie Porter of Exeter, N.H.; Jeb and Amy Jo Porter of Belmont, Vermont; three step-children and their spouses, Lisa and William Aitken of Baitaing Hollow, Long Island; Elizabeth and Ronald Perine of Cheshire, Conn.; Sarah and James Hurrell of Golden, Colo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Connie Porter of Jeffrey, N.H.; 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. A brother, Walter Porter predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday from the Church of the Epiphany, Classic St., Sherburne.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene, in the spring.

Services have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
