Roy Pappas


ONEONTA – Roy C. Pappas, 94, formerly of Oneonta passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at the Sunset Nursing and Rehab Center in Boonville.  Born Dec. 9, 1913 in Goderich, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Anthony and Ethel (Tanke) Pappas. 
The Pappas family moved to Rochester in 1925.  In 1939, Roy became a U.S. citizen in the Supreme Court of Monroe County in Rochester. He married Elfrieda Bethe Fuhlborne in Batavia on Jan. 26, 1939, she predeceased him in 1986. Roy graduated from high school in Rochester. He later attended Collegiate Center and Mechanic Institute (now RIT).  He worked first as a customer service manager for Sears Roebuck Com, until 1946, then as a project engineer for S.C.M. Coronia in Groton until 1963. At the time of his retirement, Roy worked as a packaging engineer manager for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals in Norwich. He continued to work several years after retirement as a consultant contractor.
Roy is a Mason and was honored by them for saving the life of a boy from drowning. He also served on committees in Washington D.C., NYC and Chicago for the Food and Drug Administration, PMMI and PMA.
He is survived by his son, Roy A. Pappas and daughter in law, Susan Pappas; two grandsons, Christopher Andrew and Anthony Scott Pappas and many friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta.  A graveside and burial service will be held in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
