Evelyn Maurer


GUILDERLAND – Evelyn R. Maurer, 88, entered into eternal life on Wednesday Jan. 2, 2008 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. She was the wife of Nelson Maurer, Industrial Arts Teacher of Roscoe Central High School.
Evelyn was born on Oct. 12, 1919 in Norwich, the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys (Thompson) Sumner. Evelyn was best known for the inspirational letters and notes she has written through the years to friends and family. Her words of encouragement were treasured by many and will be remembered for years to come. Evelyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling and assisting her husband in putting on slide presentations for area nursing homes, libraries, schools and clubs. She enjoyed being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and providing them with the legacy of her love and faith in the Lord she served throughout her life.
Evelyn’s devoted husband, Nelson S. Maurer, of 67 years predeceased her in February of 2006. She is survived by her children; Bud (Sandy) Maurer and Nancy (Jack) Decatur, her grandchildren; Cindy (Mike) Gile, John (fiancee Wendy Quinn) Decatur, Jill Decatur, Jim (Meg) Maurer and Matthew Maurer, her great-grandchildren; Ben, Evelyn, Lauren, Mason and Skylar and her brother Dr. and Mrs. Robert Sumner.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.). A calling hour will precede the service from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be at Memory’s Garden Cemetery.
