George Thomas


NORWICH – George W. Thomas, 23, life-long Norwich resident, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 2008 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
George was born in January of 1984, the son of Frederick and Ruthann (Gray) Thomas. Growing up in Norwich, he attended Norwich City Schools. He was a young man, never afraid of hard work, and had been employed by Rea-D-Pack Foods, Valley View Manor Nursing Home, and Wal-Mart. A gifted artist who could draw or sketch anything,George loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and looked forward to the two-week camping trip he shared annually with his parents. He was a young man with a big heart who would gladly do anything for anyone.
George is survived by his companion and the mother of his son, Beverly Combes; his son, Nathaniel Thomas, and his parents, Frederick and Ruthann Thomas, all of Norwich; by his brothers: Jeff Thomas and companion Jennifer Carnachan of Norwich, Jason Thomas and wife Amanda of Chittenango, Fred Thomas and companion Jennifer Zornow of Norwich, and Tommy Thomas of Norwich. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Ruth Gray, and paternal grandparents Rose and Ronald Thomas, all of Norwich; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. George was predeceased in December of 2007 by his grandfather, George Gray.
Funeral services for George will be held at 1 p.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Norwich will officiate. Interment in the spring will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from noon until the service at 1 p.m.
