William Vidler


SHERBURNE FOUR CORNERS – William J. Vidler, 88, of County Rt. 20, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, Dec. 17, 2007.
He was born Sept. 9, 1919 in New Berlin, a son of Richard L. and Helen Todd Vidler. Bill attended East Main St. School and was a graduate of Norwich High School in 1940. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from February 1942 until June 1945. On Dec. 22, 1941, William was united in marriage to Barbara E. Brown in Smyrna. A life long area resident, Bill was the manager of the Victory Markets Bakery in Norwich for 25 years until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Vidler was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Norwich and was active in the FAHOLO.
Surviving are Barbara, his wife of 65 years; his children, Victor J. and Carol “CJ” Vidler of Sherburne; Elizabeth and Richard Law of Smyrna; Frederick and Terri Vidler of Adams; Dale and Nancy Vidler of Honeoye Falls; Joyce and Dana Wratten of Poolville; Janice and Martin Briggs of Houston, Texas; Ronald and Martha Vidler of Norwich; David Vidler and his fiancée Pam Periard of Sherburne: a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Betty Vidler of Vero Beach, Fla.;  sister-in-law, Joan Vidler of Norwich; 15 grandchildren, Justin, Melinda, William Earl, Katie, Joshua, Sarah, Jennifer, Ashley, Hannah, Brandon, Sherry, David, Ellen, Sarah and Tonya; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Calvin Law, a granddaughter, Amanda Vidler, and a brother, Hubert Vidler.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday from the Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Dr., Norwich with Pastor Brian Conover officiating.
Interment in Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna will be private at the convenience of the family,
Friends are invited to call at the church from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the service.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, or to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
