Mary Hackett


PLYMOUTH – Mary June Hackett, 66, of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in the Wilson Regional Hospital of Johnson City.
Born in Norwich in September of 1941, Mary was the daughter of Paul and Edith (Ball) Thompson. She attended the Norwich schools and was married to Leland Hackett in Norwich on June 4, 1960. Mary’s greatest love was for her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. A peppy and personable lady who loved to “ram,” she was also a hard worker who had held jobs in Norwich’s Big N and Catholic Charities where she was a domestic violence advocate. For nine years she had been manager of the garden center in Wal-Mart. She was very artistic and liked doing crafts, ceramics and crocheting, and loved gardening.
Mary is survived by her husband, Leland Hackett of Plymouth; her children and their spouses: Terry and Wendy Hackett of Guilford, Alan and Melissa Hackett of South Carolina, Joseph Hackett and fiancee Gladys Miller of South Plymouth, and Craig and Melanie Hackett of South Plymouth; by 17 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Janice Elaine Kruczek of Syracuse, Cheryl Ann Ross of Sherburne, and June Anita Thompson of North Syracuse; her brothers: Paul T. Thompson of Binghamton, Barry Gene Thompson of Syracuse, and Patrick Thompson and wife Cathy of Norwich; and by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Doug Besemer, pastor of the Edmeston United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment at a later date will be in the South Side Cemetery of Plymouth. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
