GREENE — The Oxford/Greene football team fell to the Deposit/Hancock Eagles 42-8 in a homecoming matchup at Greene High School. Deposit/Hancock struck first with big run plays and built an early lead, but OG fought back late in the first quarter when Ryder Hitt broke free for about a 50-yard touchdown run with 14.7 seconds left. Caleb Holbert then connected with Eddie Ingraham on a two-point conversion pass to make it a one-score game on a 16-8 deficit.
Deposit/Hancock answered right back in the second quarter and carried a 28-8 lead into halftime after holding off the OG defense, which had flashed with a combined sack and an interception by Ingraham. The Eagles scored on the first play of the second half, and though Oxford-Greene's defense forced a punt and blocked it to reach the opponent's 14-yard line, a second-and-goal fumble turned the ball back over and led to another D/H touchdown. OG mounted a long, ground-heavy drive in the final quarter featuring carries from Hitt, David Dunckel, Donte Wrench, Justin Arboit, and Ingraham, but turned it over on downs, allowing the Eagles to run out the clock.
