SIDNEY — The Great Give Back is an annual initiative in libraries throughout New York State during the month of October. This year the Sidney Memorial Public Library is soliciting donations of cleaning supplies, cat/dog food and toys for the Delaware Valley Humane Society. Please help us support the Delaware Valley Humane Society and the animals they take in by dropping your donations off at the library during regular library hours during the month of October.
Two special history programs will be presented at the Sidney library. Both programs will be held in the Smart Community Room. On Friday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m., Erie Canal Museum Deputy Director Derrick Pratt will present ‘Revolutionary Waterway: The Erie Canal and the American Revolution.’ While the canal opened 50 years after the American Revolution, this talk examines how the Revolution shaped the people, places and ideas that created this influential work. Then on Saturday, October 24 at 11 a.m., Terry McMaster presents ‘Rev. William Johnston and His Gang of Villains: A Loyalist Perspective.’
The Friends of the Libraries will hold their huge Fall Book Sale on Thursday, October 29 from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Friends of the Libraries will present the movie, ‘Song Sung Blue’ with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson on Sunday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours and 12 minutes. The movie will be shown in the Smart Community Room.
