NORWICH — Commerce Chenango recognized Alvogen in Norwich this week for its long history as a pharmaceutical manufacturer, major employer and local community supporter.
Alvogen was honored Thursday during Commerce Chenango’s 2026 Manufacturing Appreciation Luncheon at Lewis’ Restaurant in Sherburne.
Vice President of Site Operations in Norwich Adam Conlon, accepted the recognition on behalf of the company and its employees.
Conlon, who joined the Norwich operation about four months ago, said the people working at the site and the surrounding community quickly stood out to him.
“While I'm honored to accept this award, the credit belongs to the people who built this legacy long before I arrived,” Conlon said.
Alvogen has been part of a pharmaceutical manufacturing tradition going back more than 130 years. Generations of local workers have produced medications in Norwich through changes in company ownership, products and facilities.
“Since the 1880s, generations of skilled and dedicated people have produced products, solved complex challenges, and built a legacy of innovation, quality, and service,” Conlon said. “Companies, products, and facilities have changed, but the dedication, ingenuity, and work ethic of the people have remained constant.”
Today, Alvogen operates its U.S. manufacturing facility in Norwich. The facility encompasses more than 350,000 square feet on approximately 400 acres and makes several product including tablets, hard capsules, liquid-filled capsules and liquid pharmaceutical medicines. They currently manufacture at least 26 key pharmaceutical molecules used in a number of medical products with the larger company making billions of tablets.
Conlon said their Norwich workforce strives to continue a strong work-ethic established by previous generations of success.
“Every day, our team comes to work committed to producing high-quality medicines that improve patients' lives,” he said. “Their expertise, dedication, and pride make achievements like this possible.”
Alvogen is a U.S.-based pharmaceutical company.
According to the company, they focus on developing, manufacturing and marketing pharmaceutical products, including generic medications. In December 2025, Alvogen became a subsidiary of Lotus Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., bring new plans and investments.
The Norwich plant is Alvogen’s dedicated U.S. manufacturing site and an important part of the company’s production chain.
“Through accountability, procedural discipline, and continuous improvement, we create a culture that protects our people, serves our patients, and drives pharmaceutical excellence,” said Conlon.
Conlon also credited and thanked employees’ families, local leaders, community partners and other Chenango County businesses with helping sustain manufacturing in the area.
“Strong manufacturers are built on strong communities, and we are fortunate to have both,” Conlon said.
He added that the recognition belongs not only to the employees working at the Norwich facility today, but also to the generations of workers who established the community’s pharmaceutical manufacturing legacy.
“We are proud of our history, grateful for this recognition and excited about the future,” Conlon said. “I'm honored to be part of that story and excited about what we can accomplish together.”
