GREENE — On Saturday, the Greene Trojans girls’ soccer team faced off against non-league opponent Dryden, where they earned a 7-0 shutout victory.
Greene played a strong first half with around 20 shots on goal, taking a 3-0 lead at halftime with goals from Miah Cragle from Hailey Butler, Miah Cragle on an empty net, and Hailey Butler from Miah after the goalie tried to deflect the ball.
Macie Dunlap and Clare Tompkins played good defense along with others to only allow a single shot on goal within that first half.
Greene scored early on within the first 10 minutes of the second half as Hailey Butler, who was very shot savvy, gets a goal off a good pass from Melanie Specht. Miah Cragle had a hat trick with a slow roller halfway through the second half. Dryden had a few chances but Khloe Waltz and the Greene defense stood their ground, allowing its offense to continue to play strong as well.
Ella Beach had a goal with under 10 minutes to play off a pass from Caitlin Walls while Chenoa Corson scored with under two minutes left in the game.
Khloe Waltz made four saves in goal in the win.
Greene improves to 9-2 on the season behind Unatego/Franklin in the MAC standings. The Trojans will face the Spartan Devils this evening at 7 p.m. in a battle of top teams.
