NORWICH - Historian Edward J. “Ed” Erickson will present “Tradesmen, Cattle Dealers, and Chemists: Chenango County’s Jewish Community from 1914-2025” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Norwich Jewish Center, 72 S. Broad St.

The presentation will trace the history of Jewish families who settled in Chenango County during three major periods in the 20th century, including Eastern European tradesmen in the early decades of the century, German farmers and cattle dealers fleeing the Nazis before World War II, and manufacturers and professionals who arrived after the war.

Erickson will discuss how those families contributed to local businesses and industries, and founded the Jewish Center of Norwich. The lecture will also discuss the decline of the county’s Jewish population beginning in the latter part of the 20th century and its lasting impacts.
