GILBERTSVILLE — The regular monthly meeting of Butternut Valley Grange will convene at the Grange Hall, 7 Bloom St., at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

Reports on the Grange’s final event of the Garden to Table project, which culminated several workshops held during the summer, will enlighten members on the success of this venture. The Grange’s involvement in the Harvest Festival over the Sept. 12-13 weekend in Cooperstown will also be reviewed.

Preliminary plans for the annual Meet the Candidates Night, to be held Oct. 22, will be shared. At this writing, candidates for state Senate and Assembly, county representative for the towns of Butternuts, Morris and Pittsfield, and Otsego County sheriff have been invited to the 7 p.m. event, which is open to the public.

At the last meeting, the Grange approved a resolution supporting recess time in public elementary schools, as there appears to be a trend of many schools reducing this time, which jeopardizes the physical and psychological development of children in their early years.

Liam Herbert provided a multimedia presentation on Revolutionary War veterans from the town of Butternuts and their local burial sites.

George Dempsie, who recently won best of show in the annual State Grange Talent Contest, was scheduled to perform in the Grange Building at the State Fair on Sept. 5.

Linda Gover and Norm and Anna Ritchey will greet early arrivals at the Sept. 14 meeting with light refreshments.
