The Sidney Memorial Public Library Plans For September

SIDNEY - The Sidney Memorial Public Library is very pleased to welcome Kim Skellie and Allison Collins on board as our new Library Assistants. Kim and Allison will be focusing on Youth Services.

Saturday, September 19, 2 to 3:30 p.m. historian Scott Payne will be presenting the next program in his series on the American Revolution in New York State. This program is entitled, The Consequences of Loyalty: Choosing Sides In The American Revolution. This program will be held in the Smart Community Room.

Saturday, September 26 at 1 p.m. we will feature a local history program, The Rise and Fall Of The Chenango Canal by Historian Vicky House. Vicky will present her research on the “Million Dollar Ditch” from construction to completion. This program will also be held in the Smart Community Room.

Be sure to stop by and check out the beautiful nature photo exhibit by Rick Bunting on display through September 24.

Looking ahead to October our Art Exhibition, “Making Merit” by Roshan Houshmand will be on display. Please join us for the Opening Reception of her solo exhibition, “Making Merit: Tibetan Buddhist Art Lecture, Drawing & Painting. The reception will be held on Saturday, October 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.in The Smart Community Room.

Roshan Houshmand is an Iranian-American artist and educator whose multicultural background deeply informs her work. Born in the Philippines, she was raised there and in Iran until later moving to the United States. Her heritage blends the Dutch-American maternal and the Iranian paternal roots, and her art draws on ancient patterns, textures and spiritual traditions.

Please join us for the Opening Reception of her solo exhibition, “Making Merit: Tibetan Buddhist Art Lecture, Drawing & Painting.

In addition to this special art exhibit Roshan will also have a two-part workshop. Please contact the library for more information and to register for the work-shop by calling 607-563-1200. The Exhibit will be on display through October 24.

The Sidney Memorial Public Library Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m. The public is always welcome.

Book Club will meet on Tuesday, October 13 at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the book, Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett.
