EARLVILLE – Community unity and togetherness is the focus this weekend as the Earlville community comes together to celebrate Earlville Community Day on Saturday, Aug. 1.

With the dissolution of Earlville’s Events Committee, the celebration was in danger of not happening at all this year, but former Events Committee member Lori Crumb was not about to let that happen.

“I didn’t want the community to go without this event that they look forward to,” Crumb said.

With the support of the Earlville Fire Department, Crumb ensured Earlville Community Day would not be missed.

On Saturday, the events will begin with community-wide garage sales and the Earlville Free Library’s annual book sale.

The Earlville Opera House will hold a quilt show from noon to 2:30 p.m. The event will be free and open to the public.

At 1:30 p.m., a play directed by Sherburne senior Josie Pierce will be performed at the new courtyard at the Earlville Opera House.

Events will continue into the evening. From 3 to 6 p.m., Firemen’s Field will host vendors and food trucks, and the Earlville Fire Department will hold a chicken barbecue. Chicken is available for $10. People can complete the meal by stopping at Clyde’s Little Red Barn and purchasing two sides and a dessert for an additional $5.

At 6 p.m., there will be a community parade that begins at the Mirabito gas station and continues through town, ending at Firemen’s Field. This year, Earlville residents have formed their own band, and the parade will include a color guard and marching band performance.

At 7 p.m., music will be performed at Firemen’s Field by the local Family Tradition Band. Events will conclude with a fireworks display, sponsored by the village, at dusk.

“Earlville Community Day is an annual community event that people look forward to. It’s available at low cost or no cost and everyone can enjoy it,” Crumb said. “These days, all costs are going up except paychecks. It’s hard to get out and do something that won’t break the bank.”

Crumb said Earlville Community Day captures life in a small-town American community like Earlville. “We don’t need a lot. We just need community unity and togetherness through small events like this.”

The Village of Earlville recently formed the Parks and Recreation Committee, which now has six members. In future years, activities like Earlville Community Day and the Earlville Christmas Celebration will be planned and organized by that group; but this year, Crumb is working to ensure those events take place while the new committee becomes established.

“Come and enjoy a fun-filled day with family and make memories,” Crumb said. “We want to keep the community going and show that we care about people.”
