UV PONY Sweeps Doubleheader Vs Norwich

NEW BERLIN— It was a local matchup on Thursday night with the Unadilla Valley Storm PONY league team hosting Norwich for a doubleheader. UV swept both games with a score of 9-6 and 13-6 in game two.

Game 1:

UV 9 - Norwich 6

Norwich took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI double by Mason Skundrich and a run on an error. UV had a five-run third inning to take the lead, where the bases were loaded on a dropped third strike, Kasen Cox singled, and Urijah Drake singled. One run came in on a passed ball before Teagin Eccleston drove in a pair on a double. An error brought in another run before a run came in on a wild pitch to make it 5-2 Storm.

UV added on with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Cox singled with one out before scoring on Drake’s double. With two outs, UV rallied on with two runs coming in on bases loaded walks and a run came in on a wild pitch.

Norwich got four back in the top of the fifth as Cooper Vischi singled to drive in a run, Sam Boland had a groundout RBI before a run came in on an error on the next play. Channing Fouls singled to drive the fourth run of the inning before the final out.

Teagin Eccleston went the complete game for the Storm, allowing six unearned runs on three hits, a walk, and six strikeouts through five innings. Channing Foulds took the loss for Norwich, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts. Joey Portelli pitched in relief, allowing an unearned run on no hits, two walks, and a strikeout.

Game 2:

UV 13 - Norwich 6

UV’s Kasen Cox led the Storm by going three-for-three, including a solo home run in the first inning. Urijah Drake also had some fun with three of the team’s total 13 hits. UV scored six runs on four hits in the second as Jake Favinger singled, driving in a run and Urijah Drake and Paul Ruffles both driving in a pair with singles.

Norwich scored five runs on no hits in the bottom of the third as a wild pitch drove in a run, two bases loaded walks, a hit by pitch, and a groundout RBI by Rocky Burke.

UV added on with a five run fifth inning as Cash Osborne drove in a run on a single, a run came in on a wild pitch, Cox cashed in again with a RBI single this time, Drake finished with three RBIs as he had another RBI in the fifth, and Teagin Eccleston was hit by the pitch to drive in a run.

Nick Crandall got the start for the Storm on the mound, going two and two thirds, allowing five earned runs on no hits, four walks, and struck out four batters. Paul Ruffles and Cash Osborne pitched in relief.

Jadiel Jorge went four innings for Norwich, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits, two walks and struck out three batters. Koltyn Collins went an inning in relief, allowing five earned runs on four hits, two walks, and had two strikeouts.
