OTEGO— The Oxford Blackhawks PONY league team fell short to Unatego on the road on Wednesday 7-6.

The Blackhawks were down throughout the contest, but fought back in the sixth and seventh innings, one run from tying the game.

Alarik Davenport led Oxford with a strong performance at the plate. Davenport went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI as well as a run scored. Evan Johnson got the biggest hit of the night for Oxford getting a two-run double that brought Uri Tracy and Noah Bush home.

With Tracy starting on the mound for Oxford, he also scored once while Noah Bush crossed the plate twice after reaching base with two walks. Joey Locke also scored a run as well as Brayden Stanton coming in for Ives scored a run. Oxford finished with four hits but kept the competitiveness high by drawing several walks and taking opportunities on the bases.

The result did not go Oxford’s way but they showed a good fight along with offensive base running, which shows promise going into the next game home against Deposit tonight at 6 p.m.
