HARPURSVILLE—The Harpursville/Afton Crimson Hornets baseball team hosted Unadilla Valley at Harpursville for the first round of the MAC playoffs.
Both teams battled but the Crimson Hornets came away with a close 4-3 victory in the bottom of the seventh inning.
H/A took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Isaiah Hopkins drove in Liem Donahue on a two-out single to left field.
The Storm tied the game in the top of the second on two outs as Kasen Cox led off the inning on a single to center, stole second, advanced to third, and scored during Reed Osborne's at-bat.
UV went ahead 2-1 in the top of the third on Uriah Drake's RBI single to right field.
The Crimson Hornets tied it up again in the bottom of the fifth as Trenton Franklin had a two-out RBI single.
UV's Teagin Eccleston drove in Kasen Cox in the top of the sixth after Cox had an infield single and advanced to third on an error before scoring on Eccleston's single.
Nolan Lewis singled to keep runners in scoring position for a chance at insurance runs, but after a pitching change, H/A got out of the inning.
H/A held UV from scoring in the top of the seventh with catching Zayne Dibbell trying to steal home and getting a strikeout and a groundout.
Davin Warren had a one-out triple to put himself in great scoring position for the Crimson Hornets in the bottom of the seventh. Trenton Franklin walked to reach base on the potential game-winning run.
Liem Donahue singled to bring in Warren to tie the game and Franklin moved to third. Franklin scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch to win it for H/A.
Warren got the start on the mound for the Crimson Hornets, where he went five innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, a walk, and struck out 10 batters.
Franklin pitched two innings in relief, giving up just one hit and struck out one batter and was credited the win.
Teagin Eccleston went five innings for the Storm, allowing two earned runs on five hits, two walks, and had six strikeouts.
Declan Potter went an inning and a third, allowing two earned runs on two hits, a walk, and struck out four batters in the loss.
