O-G Baseball Hangs On Vs Harpursville/Afton

HARPURSVILLE—The Oxford-Greene baseball team took on Harpursville/Afton on the road in Harpursville on Tuesday night. O-G held on to win 8-6 to improve to 5-4 on the season.

The Crimson Hornets went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first as Davin Warren led the inning off with a inside the park home run to right field.

Isaiah Hopkins brought in a run on a two-out RBI single and came in on a bases-loaded walk.

Oxford-Greene tied it up in the top of the second as Kiefer Evans had a one out single and advanced to second on an error before going to third on a bunt single by Blake Barrows.

Both Evans and Barrows came in to score on Aiden Carter's two-run single to center.

Carter tied the game after scoring on a passed ball.

Harpursville/Afton regained the lead in the bottom of the second as Warren led the inning off with a double and scored during Paul Shelton's at-bat.

The Crimson Hornets went up 5-3 on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third inning.

O-G flipped the switch as they put up three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead with two outs.

Cooper Davis reached on an error and went to second on Kiefer Evans' single to left before both scored on Blake Barrows'two-out, two-run double.

Barrows scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

O-G held Harpursville/Afton and scored two additional runs in the top of the sixth inning on Nic Dodzweit's two-run single.

The Crimson Hornets got one back in the bottom of the sixth before the final out of the inning and could not plate another run in their final at-bats in the seventh.

Cooper Davis earned the win on the mound for Oxford-Greene, allowing one unearned run on one hit, three walks, and seven strikeouts through four innings.

Blake Barrows and Adam Beckwith pitched in relief, where Barrows allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits, three walks, and struck out four batters.

Beckwith walked one and struck out two batters to get the final two outs in the top of the seventh.

Davin Warren went four and two thirds, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits, one walk, and struck out two batters.

Trenton Franklin allowed two earned runs on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout in relief.

Oxford-Greene (5-4) heads to Deposit-Hancock on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Harpursville/Afton (2-9) heads to Unatego/Franklin at the same time.
