SHERBURNE— The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves baseball team hosted non-league opponent Waterville on Friday afternoon. Both teams battled but S-E hung on to a 5-4 victory and played excellent defense. The Timberwolves also picked up their third straight win.
Both teams scored a run in the first and then two in the third before S-E went ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth. S-E held Waterville to a run in the sixth before a 1,2,3 top of the seventh to secure the victory.
Tomek Jusianiec out-dueled Waterville’s starting pitcher and had great defense behind him as the Timberwolves turned two double plays.
One double play was a strikeout and a throw to third to catch the runner off guard and then a step on the bag to third and then the throw to first was on time for the other.
Colin Pudney led S-E with a single, two walks, and five stolen bases as Chad Nower had a hit and a stolen base and Parker McCracken with an infield single.
Jusianiec worked the complete game, allowing the four runs on four hits, two walks, and struck out five batters in the win.
S-E (3-4) heads to Hamilton this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
