NORWICH — The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) will present a program on the biology and management of black bears from 6 to 8 p.m., May 7, at the CCE building, located at 99 North Broad Street in Norwich.

Broome County CCE Nature Based Educator Tom Tasber will give the black bear presentation with assistance from CCE’s Chenango Agriculture and Natural Resource Educator, and graduate of SUNY-ESF, Rich Taber.

There is no cost to attend but pre-registration is encouraged. Reservations can be made by calling 607-334-5841, ext 1025 or email rbt44@cornell.edu.

Taber said it was found that most people would like to see a black bear but do not necessarily want them living near their homes.

“With the black bear population increasing and spreading across our area since the 1980's, sightings and encounters are more frequent,” said Taber. “We will examine the bear's natural history in addition to discussing ways to safely co-exist with this popular species.”
