CHENANGO COUNTY— The Oxford Blackhawks softball team had a busy weekend, where they played two games and won both of them to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Friday’s game:
Oxford 8 - Edmeston/Morris 5
The Blackhawks got on the board in the bottom of the first as Jenna Denz had an RBI single. Oxford extended its lead in the bottom of the second as Abby Stone had a groundout RBI and Reagan Long singled to drive in a run. Edmeston/Morris got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a run before scoring three in the fifth to tie the game at four a piece after Oxford got a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Blackhawks took control in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs as Colette Kappauf had a two-run single, Reagan Long drew a bases-loaded walk, and Lily Marshman grounded out to drive in a run. E/M scored its final run in the top of the seventh inning, but Marshman and the defense limited the damage.
Saturday’s game:
Oxford 6 - Greene 3
In a local neighborly matchup, Oxford traveled to Greene late Saturday morning. Both teams got on the road in the first. Oxford’s Reagan Long had a RBI double before scoring on Jenna Denz’s double. With two outs in the bottom of the first, Greene got on the board with a double by Deirdre Colgan. Oxford extended its lead in the top of the second inning, scoring four runs. Long drove in another run, this time on a groundout. Jenna Denz came up clutch again with a two-out, two-run single to right field before scoring on Cora Hodge’s double to right. The Trojans scored two in the bottom half of the second on two outs as Ahraya Whitt had a two-run single. That concluded the scoring for both teams before the game became a pitchers’ duel.
