ONEONTA— The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats and Norwich Purple Tornado softball teams traveled to Oneonta’s All-Star Village for the SFCU tournament, which also featured Sidney and host Oneonta.
Oneonta won the tournament over Norwich and Sidney.
Game 1:
Sidney 9- B-G 7
After being down 9-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, B-G scored all of its runs in the seventh, but came up short. A walk, a single, and a hit by pitch loaded up the bases and then Emma Kinter was hit by the pitch to bring in a run. A fielder’s choice brought in another run before Alessandra Cafasso doubled and brought home two runs before two runs scored on an error. In her second time up, Kaylin Furgason singled to bring home a run with two outs before the final out stopped the attempted comeback.
Game 1:
Oneonta 4 - Norwich 0
After three scoreless innings, Oneonta got on the board in both the fourth and fifth innings. Norwich had five hits in the loss with two from Ava Cirigliano, two from Shaelyn Rice, and a hit by Vanessa Chetronie. Bri Cirigliano reached on a walk.
Game 2: Consolation
B-G 11- Norwich 7
Both teams had a good start to the contest as Norwich scored four runs in the first and B-G with three runs at the bottom of the first. The tables turned in the fourth inning as the Bobcats took a 7-6 lead and even as both teams traded runs, B-G had the upper hand. B-G’s Breanna Casey went two-for-four with two RBIs as Kaylin Furgason and Madisyn Peck also drove in two runs. Brenna George, Alessandra Cafasso and Abbagayle Fitzgerald also drove in runs. Norwich’s Ava Cirigliano, Kerragan Reid, Shaelyn Rice, and Brooke Rogers each had a hit in the loss.
Breanna Casey and Alessandra Cafasso were named to the All-tournament team as well as Norwich’s Shaelyn Rice, who broke out of a slump.
