OXFORD - Singer-songwriter Phil Henry will perform his award-winning tunes with his band The Newsfeed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at 6 On The Square in Oxford.

Performing with Henry (guitar and vocals) will be Mitch Barron (fretless and upright bass, and vocals) and Jeff Kimball (piano, electric mandolin and vocals).

Henry has always believed in making it himself. As a kid, he was never content to only look at art — he had to paint and draw something new. He studied the masters in music school but was drawn to the do-it-yourself pluckiness of folk music, so he concentrated on steel-string guitar and writing his first original compositions.

Henry’s songs reflect that same creative drive. He builds detailed worlds and characters who speak through his words. The upbeat acoustic rhythm, melodic sensibility and lush instrumental treatment are no carbon-copy of popular or folk radio songs but is an expression of his individuality and craft.

After 20 years in the music business, Henry continues to do it all himself by recording and mixing albums from his home studio, booking concerts, shooting and producing videos, and designing cover art and posters. His songs have been recognized at SolarFest and Susquehanna Music and Arts and showcase sets at Falcon Ridge and Kerrville folk festivals.

Henry’s album, “Chasing Echoes,” debuted at #2 on the folk radio charts. His latest release, “MacGuffin,” debuted at the Falcon Ridge, where he was voted by the audience as a Most Wanted Emerging Artist the previous year.
