NORWICH -The City of Norwich and Chenango County Emergency Operations Center have issued a travel advisory for motorists using state Route 12 in the city as bridge work gets underway.

According to the advisory, the New York State Department of Transportation began work April 7 on the Route 12 bridge over the Canasawacta Creek. The bridge is located on the southern end of the city near Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and McDonald’s.

Officials said the work is expected to last about two weeks.

Motorists should expect stop-and-go traffic and delays in the area during that time. The advisory recommends that drivers seek alternate routes to reach their destinations while the work is underway.
