ONEONTA— The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team traveled to take on Oneonta in a STAC league game on Monday afternoon. Both teams battled to a high-scoring 10-10 tie in the top of the eighth inning in a game that was called due to darkness. Both teams will resume in their next meeting, which may come in mid-April when the two face off in the SFCU Softball Tournament or in another game.

Both teams put up four runs in the first before a scoreless second inning. Norwich went ahead with a six-run third inning, lead by Ava Cirigliano with a lead off single, stole second, and stayed put as Kerragan Reid walked. Cirigliano stole third and Reid stole second before both scored on Carolyn Wright’s two-run double.

The inning continued with one out as Wright got caught stealing third and Loralee Brown and Shaelyn Rice both walked.

During Kira Quattrocchi’s at bat, Loralee Brown, who was on third, stole home. Quattrocchi flied out to make the second out but Norwich rallied on as Rice stole third and home. Brooke Rogers, who reached on a dropped third strike, and Abigail Telesky, who singled, both scored on steals during Nolah Montgomery’s at bat.

Oneonta shut out Norwich and tied the game with three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. Neither team could not score the game-winning run before the game was called due to darkness.

So far in the game, Norwich has seven hits with three from Wright, and one a piece from Ava Cirigliano, Loralee Brown, Brooke Rogers, and Abigail Telesky.
