NORWICH— After a close game against Windsor to open the season, the Norwich Purple Tornado softball team hosted Sus Valley in the 2026 home opener. Norwich fell 17-0 on the rainy Thursday night.
The Sabers broke the game open with nine runs in the first inning before scoring the rest of their runs in the second and third innings.
Norwich was held to one hit from Bri Cirigliano, who singled on a bunt in the bottom of the first. The Purple Tornado was also able to put the ball in play but no luck on getting through the Sabers’ defense.
Ava Cirigliano walked twice as Carolyn Wright walked once. Ava and Bri also stole a base when reaching base.
Bri Cirigliano got the start on the mound, where she went four and two-thirds, allowing 15 runs (six earned) on eight hits, eight walks, and struck out five batters. Kira Quattrocchi worked a third of an inning to close out the fifth, allowing two runs (one earned), no hits, and a walk.
Norwich (0-2) heads to Oneonta on Monday.
