ALBANY - Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C-Norwich) is voicing his opposition to the “REVIVE” Act (A.10632). This would allow the state to override local zoning authorities and permit vacant retail spaces and parking lots to be converted into low-income housing without approval from the locality. Angelino says this is just another example of Democrats in Albany thinking they know best and taking away control from communities.

“Once again, bureaucrats in Albany think they know what is best for a community, even if they have never set foot in it. I worked in local government for 30-plus years and know the officials closest to the people should make local decisions  on the future of the community. What this bill would do is chip away control from localities and allow the state to remake local communities as it sees fit. That isn’t right or fair; communities know what is best for them and should always have the final say. Taking away control from elected local officials is simply the wrong move. Many local communities want to retain their way of life and not be forced to urbanize just because Albany says so. I urge all my colleagues to oppose this bill,” said Angelino.

Assemblyman Angelino represents the 121st Assembly District, which includes parts of Broome County, Delaware County, Madison County, Chenango County and Otsego County. Follow Assemblyman Angelino on Facebook.
