OXFORD - Chenango Valley Trout Unlimited will host an Introduction to Fly Fishing course on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1 to 5:00 PM at Oxford Middle School, Room 305 (near the Oxford Fire Department).

This course is designed for beginners and anyone looking to refine their skills, offering hands-on instruction from experienced Trout Unlimited members.

"This course is a great opportunity for anyone interested in fly fishing to learn the basics directly from passionate and experienced anglers," said Grady Thompson, Chenango Valley Chapter President.

"With spring weather approaching, it’s an ideal time to get on the water as insect activity increases and fishing conditions improve. Learning the fundamentals in a hands-on and welcoming environment helps new anglers build confidence and enjoy the sport for years to come," he said.

Attendees will learn the fundamentals of fly fishing, including casting techniques, understanding tackle and equipment, and an introduction to flies and how they are used in different fishing conditions. Participants will be provided with all necessary equipment, though those who have their own rod and reel are welcome to bring them.

The cost of registration is $45 for adults and $30 for youth ages 14 to 18, which includes admission to the course, a one-year membership to Trout Unlimited, and a one-year subscription to Trout Magazine. Class size is limited to 20 participants, and the registration deadline is Monday, April 6, 2026. Half of the registration fee is requested at the time of registration, with the remainder due on the day of the course.
