GUILFORD – P.A.K. Construction Inc. in Guilford will be hosting their 5th annual Guilford Road Cleanup Event on Saturday, April 11.
In return for bringing in at least two bags of trash collected from the road, participants are offered a half chicken barbecue dinner cooked and served by the Canine Canal of Brisben, and sides donated by Bonnie's of Greene.
People can drop off their collected trash at any time, as long as the dumpster for the event is there. The chicken will be ready to be served at noon, tables and games will be set up in the shop for participants to enjoy a good time with each other.
P.A.K. Construction has operated in the local area doing concrete and excavation work for around 36 years. Paul Knowles, owner/operator of PAK Construction, said there are three primary reasons he hosts this event. One, is it gets trash off our roads, two, it motivates other towns to start similar activities, and three the most important to him, is that it inspires the kids participating to never litter.
“They're never going to throw anything out, as long as they live, they're never even going to throw a gum wrapper out of their vehicle. And as they get older and ride around with their friends, I'm sure if one of their friends decided to throw a bottle out or whatever, they're gonna go, hey you know somebody's got to pick that up,” said Knowles.
